black cherry, amber, teakwood, coffee beans, musk, cedar and leather are blended with hints of lemon, bergamot, neroli, iris, and vetiver.
Dim the lights for this one. Sensual and deep scent with clarifying activated charcoal and a poppy seed vein across the centre for a gentle scrub.
At a talk years ago with André Aciman, the author of Call Me By Your Name, he said something I’ve thought about often since. He said, “Intimacy is the absence of shame.” Someone asked why he wrote a gay love story set in a time when HIV was rampant in the queer community, why the relationship was portrayed to exist somewhat unrealistically inside a bubble of safety. Aciman replied that HIV and the world issues were the bubble. Not the intimacy of the relationship. Of course, there is space to grapple with all of the things going terribly while also living in love in real life. I made this soap thinking about intimacy as a stabilizer, how in its purest form the structures and expectations that make you feel unsure, anxious and shameful are able to slip away in your pursuit of hedonism. Finding intimacy with ourselves and others allows us to step away for a moment.
